Written in 1986, it is dedicated to the last days of the great tenor Enrico Caruso.
Lucio Dalla, to compose this song, was inspired by his stay in the same hotel room on the Amalfi coast, where the great Caruso himself had slept many years earlier.
This great inspiration has perfectly conveyed her in the lyrics and music of his splendid song.
In the refrain of Dalla’s song, a Neapolitan song from 1930 entitled Dicitincello vuje is evoked.
The great tenor Enrico Caruso was born in Naples on 25.2.1873 and died in Naples on 2.8.1921. He was the first tenor to achieve world fame.
He was in fact the first tenor in the world to embrace the technology of the vinyl record.
In fact, in 1902 Enrico Caruso recorded ten discs of arias and romances in Milan which were then distributed all over the world. The record company was the English Gramophone & Typewriter Co., and the recording took place in the hall of the “Grand Hotel et de Milan”, the same hotel where Giuseppe Verdi died on January 27, 1901.
